About the Finca
Unique charme at the Atlantic
Finca San Pedro is a guesthouse and finca lead in the second generation. After 30 years of guest hosting experience by my parents, I have taken over the guest business the beginning of 2023.
I am building on what has been established the past 30 years and giving it a fresh twist - sustainability being a main essence of the finca.
We are proud to be able to guarantee our guests a restful and memorable holiday.
History of the finca
Direct view of La Rambla de Castro
Our finca is named after the small chapel above the house "Ermita San Pedro", which dates back from the beginning of the 17th century. It was built next to the "camino real", an old path that connected Santa Cruz with the far west of the island. This chapel was constructed on the grounds of Hernando de Castro, a portuguese merchant, that was given the fertile land in this area as servitude to the Spanish crown during the conquest of the island.
Right infront of our door, you will find one of the largest and most beautiful palm groves of Canarian palm on the island. This protected area inlcudes the mansion "Casona de Castro", built in the 16th century, which is seen directly from our finca.
Since 1809
The old part of our finca was built as an outbuilding of the casona. The land was used for the production of sugar cane and wine, till it was economically not feasible anymore. Around the end of the 19th century, the banana production began on the Canary Islands and on our finca. We still have a small part, which we devote to banana production (pequeña enana), on the rest of our finca we are cultivating avocados.
